November is a busy month in the Rockport community despite being a layover month between the Halloween festivities and the holiday rush. Like every month, recurring monthly and weekly events give plenty of opportunity to volunteer and join the community. A few other key events also bring everyone together with local artists and vendors while celebrating the great weather with music, food and drinks.
Weekly Events of Note
Every week you will find the Coastal Bend Troop Support group meeting to make care packages for the local military community. This is a dedicated group doing great things for enlisted members and veterans of all ages. Volunteer your time or inquire about donations and resources that can help those who serve. It’s a great way to give back and show appreciate for these amazing folks.
Bingo is another recurring event that is fun for everyone with chances to win cash and prizes. It draws a dedicated group of locals and is well worth joining on a weekly basis or just come when you have time available in the schedule.
The Women’s Club of Aransas County gathers most weeks to support the local community through volunteer work. The gatherings are a fun way to network and connect with other women in the area. For a more general networking event, the networking Wednesday hosted by the Chamber of Commerce is open to the entire community and is great for folks in business or just looking to make new connections and friends. The Youth Leadership of Aransas County also meets on regular schedule with gatherings scheduled for November 11 and another Young Professional Meeting on the 21st.
Support the Arts
The month is jam packed with events in the art and theatre community. The Key Allegro: A Vision for Growth is on exhibit for the entire month. The Arts Center also has local art displays running at all times and offers free admission for many of the exhibits. Key Allegro is the highlighted display for the month however.
In the theatre department, showings of The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 are running several times weekly. This leaves plenty of opportunity to attend one showing or more if desired. The Rialto Theatre is also running the regular scheduled open mic night each week.
The Lamar Market days opens the month on November 1 with local vendors, artists, food, drinks and live music. This is a big community gathering that is very well attended. Kick off the month in style and get a jump on your holiday shopping here.
The Rockport-Fulton market days is open mid-month and is also a favorite for art, crafts, food and live music. Schedule for the 15-17, this is a big one and a must visit gathering for anyone in the area.
Going beyond the big markets, Small Business Shop Saturday is an opportunity to support local business by visiting their locations on November 30th. Many businesses are open and offer drinks and snacks on-site while locals and visitors meet the owners and employees. This is also a great time to get some holiday shopping done ahead of the busy Christmas season.
Noteworthy Community Events
November has quite a few unique events to celebrate new developments in the area. The Rockport nursing and Rehabilitation Center has a ribbon cutting event on November 5th and the AIM Hospice Center also has a celebration slated for the 9th.
The 1st Annual Boys and Girls Club Golf Tournament is starting a new tradition on November 8th for anyone interested in golf or supporting the local youth. The Fulton Mansion is also hosting an event on the 8th with history sessions and story telling for all ages. It’s a great event for families.
November 9th holds the Paint the Town Red ACISD Education Foundation event to raise funds and continuing developing a positive impact on education in the region. The event is a celebration that draws great attendance. On the education front, the Texas Maritime Museum hosts the Homeschool Days on the 13th to bring the homeschooled families together.
For something a little different, head to the Salsa Canning workshop on the 14th. Texas is known for creating incredible salsa and hot sauce flavors. Learn to make your own at this wonderful workshop.
The later part of the month is leading into Thanksgiving and the Gobble Wobble Fun Run is the perfect chance to work off a few calories while supporting the community before the big feast. The Coastal Bend Day of Giving on the 12th is also a great event to make donations and help those in need before the holiday.
Lastly, the Rockport Alzheimer’s Support Group is meeting on the 21st for those with family members suffering from the illness.
